Reiki: Myth or Real Healing?

Reiki is healing method that promotes stress reduction and relaxation and is based on an idea that energy flows through us that gives us life. Like many Asian based systems, it has undergone change taking on many identities. Some of those names include: Mikao Usui Reiki, Gendai Reiki Ho, Celtic Reiki, Siechim Reiki, Kundalini Rekei, Karuna Reiki, Western Reiki, spelled also as Rekai, Raiki, and Reke. Regardless the name and system, the basic belief is that if a “life force energy” is low or blocked, a person will fall ill. If it is high, which is the goal, a person’s life would be fulfilled; happy, healthy, and able to work, contribute to society, and love family and self unconditionally.

In Japanese rei translated means “wisdom from the universe” and ki is “life force energy”. Applied by a practitioner using his or her hands, a treatment through energy channeling, provides a wonderful glowing radiance that treats the person as whole: mind, body and spirit benefiting through relaxation, a feelings of peace and wellbeing: The value is complete contentment.

Unlike what many believe, Reiki is safe and simple. Effective in relieving illness and malady it works in conjunction with Western medical therapeutic. Though Reiki has provided methods of healing, practitioners admonishes anyone from replacing treatment from trained medical professionals and facilities with its method. In some Reiki schools, the techniques are not taught but passed down from one to another, a transference process. This is called attunement that supposedly allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of “life force energy” to improve one’s health and enhance the quality of life. You don’t need to be a doctor, lawyer or anyone with a high intellectual background. Anyone and everyone from different age groups and backgrounds can learn this through proper training.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, except a belief and understanding of true wisdom, energy flow, and compassion. With that said, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work there is a belief or not. Because Reiki comes from everywhere, the earth, moon, universe, outside us, inside us, many people find that using Reiki puts them in touch with the experience of their religious belief rather than having an intellectual perspective of it.

Dr. Mikao Usui, a Christian minister and teacher, brought Reiki into Japan after spending time in China learning healing techniques from Asian monks. From it he discovered the difference between spirituality and religion. Many have leaned towards the idea that Reiki is a religion. The Catholic Church forbids the practice in any of its facility, though nurses have used it in treating patients in Catholic hospitals. Not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony and natural healing, As it addresses simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony (five basic principals), this is universal across all cultures.

Ideals developed to add spiritual balance, the principals purpose is to open up the healing spirit by consciously deciding to improve oneself accepting the responsibility for her or his healing and take an active part in it and include an active commitment to improve oneself to complete the process system a live a gracious life, virtues worthy of practice for its inherent value.

As a martial artist for 40 years, I’ve trained both Japanese and Chinese systems. Reiki has precepts that I understand. The Five Basic Principals is similar to Gichin Funakoshi’s Dojo Kun. The concept of ki or “chi’s” force and channeling is similar to what’s trained in HsingI, baguazhang, zhan zhuang, qigong and taijiquan. The principals of kindness and compassion is similar to Falun Gong.

Though I’ve not witnessed anyone cured from this practice, I’ve hard stories, credible and believable. In my years of practice, I’ve met and had the pleasure of learning from Shihan-dai’s and grand masters with their words of wisdom. Martial arts is enamored with acumens from such teachers, now available on the internet at the press of a button. Either way, knowledge is golden, and how a person interprets the information is entirely up to him or her. Reiki with its subtleties and simplicity provides a great deal of benefit to anyone who practices as well as to those energies are pass through.

There’s this true story of one of my students. He was frustrated because he trained so long in the dojo with the intent of winning a trophy at a competition but lost three to zero very quickly in his match. He came to me complaining that his training was inadequate.

So I asked him if he ducked, bobbed or weaved away when his opponent attacked. He answered “no.”

I asked him if he shifted his weight from one position to another to avoid getting hit. He answered “no.”

I asked him if he attempted any blocks when his opponent punched or kicked. He also answered “no.”

During practice, I knew he learned the techniques in kihon, kata and kumite because I personally instructed him.

I asked him why?

He said he didn’t know why? He said that in the dojo, he relied upon my instruction to conduct his training. During a tournament competition, I was not there to instruct him on what to do.

And therein lies the problem.

In other life’s responsibilities, he was able to conduct himself responsibly, but during a competitive fight even after receiving months of training in the dojo, the conduct of action was not there.

Reiki, Zhan zhang, qigong, taijiquan, baguazhang, Hsingi, and any other internal martial and healing arts requires intent, deep and primal, starting with the willingness to go beyond creativity and imagination and evolve into a new realm of possibilities.

Channeling energy to heal requires a person to go outside a comfort zone of reality and become the universe. How can a sane person made up of skin, bones and matter become something as esoteric as the universe? One of my instructors told me that without “chi” or the energies life force that God gave us when we were born, the actual attunement or transference of energy from our mother who brought us into this world, we would be a mass of chemicals amounting to about $15 of raw material and a lot of water.

It is this focus, as simple as giving birth, that a healer must pull from wisdom and energy before he or she can attempt channeling. My method of practice is qigong and taijiquan. It may created the spark that puts me into that realm. At this time, I haven’t achieved that goal, though from a personal standpoint, I am at peace with the exercise. I recommend you taking the time to research and read from the web, books or however way you find your own source of information. Either way, you will discover the same packets of info that will lead you to conclusions and hopefully provide you the benefit your are entitled.

Knowing Anxiety Disorder – Understanding Anxiety Problems

It is normal to be anxious but there are cases that anxiety can be very disabling and can prevent you from doing activities that you normally do. When you are experiencing anxiety to the point that you find it hard to function normally on your everyday life, you might be suffering from anxiety disorder. It is important to know that anxiety disorder is a treatable condition. Understanding and knowing anxiety disorder is important to know what you are dealing with.

There are different types of anxiety disorder:

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). People with generalized anxiety disorder are chronic worrier. They have constant and exaggerated worries about common everyday things like health, family, work and money even though there is little or nothing to worry about. On severe cases, their worries are so intense that they find it hard to relax, concentrate and accomplish even the simplest daily tasks.

Panic disorder. This is a sudden terror or panic even if there is no real danger. The extreme fear suddenly occurs from out of the blue and it is usually accompanied by disabling symptoms like trembling, sweating, chest pain, pounding heartbeat, dizziness and feeling of going crazy or losing control. Sufferers may think that they are having a heart attack. Panic attacks may occur anytime without warning and sufferers cannot predict when the next attack will happen. Thinking and worrying about the next episodes of attacks make them more anxious and worried.

Social anxiety disorder. This is a condition where a person is overly self-conscious in social situations. Sufferers have extreme fear of doing common things in front of other people. They are afraid of being judged and watched. We normally get shy in front of other people but people with social anxiety disorder worry about facing feared social situations for weeks before they happen. This condition can be very disabling. Sometimes they end up staying at home to avoid social situations that might embarrass them. This condition can keep them from enjoying the company of their family and friends.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). People with OCD are controlled by obsessive thoughts that trigger their anxiety. To control their anxiety, they usually perform obsessive habits or rituals. For instance, if they have obsessive thoughts about burglars, they will repeatedly check their windows and door locks many times before going to bed. Because of their obsessive thoughts, they repeatedly check things, count things, clean things, etc. and they keep doing these rituals even though they are interfering with their daily lives.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A person may develop PTSD after a traumatic experience. Sufferers are disturbed and anxious about traumatic incidents that happened months or years ago. It may be death in the family, divorce, brutal experiences like physical or sexual abuse and natural disasters like earthquakes. People with PTSD tend to withdraw or lose interest on things they used to enjoy, become cold or less affectionate and irritable. They are having flashbacks, a condition where they believe that the traumatic incident is happening all over again.

Specific phobia. This is an irrational fear on specific things like blood, spiders, elevators, being in an enclosed area, driving, etc. Facing the feared object or situation causes anxiety attacks on sufferers. Why Buy A Photo Book When You Can Make Your Own

Personalised photo books take the kind of standards usually only associated with expensive, professionally produced artefacts and apply them to the images of the customers own choice.

The advent of digital photography has made it possible for the ordinary person to take photographs in numbers, and of a quality, which would once have been the preserve of professionals only. What this means is that events such as birthday parties, weddings, holidays and family days out can be recorded for posterity in a depth which would, until fairly recently, have been impossible.

The ‘problem’, to coin a phrase, caused by this abundance of imagery, lies in choosing which of the many photographs taken are the ones which you want to keep and then opting for a means of storage. All too often, people find that their pictures are stored in a myriad of different places – some languishing in files on their computer, some still on the camera memory card. Others printed off and put away in tins or drawers – and so when the time comes to look through them and relive the memories, or else show off their favourites to someone else, it’s difficult if not impossible to do so. What this problem highlights is the fact that our photographs are precious to us.

They are often more than just two dimensional images on a piece of paper, they are memories, moments in time which have been captured forever and which, every time you look at them, have the power to transport you back to a time and a place where you were happy. Personalised photo books are a way of storing your photos which reflects just how much they mean to you, and which makes it easy to keep them in perfect condition and look at them whenever you want to. The technology now available to anyone who takes digital photographs means that putting a photos together is a quick and incredibly easy process. All that’s needed is to upload the relevant pictures to the website you’re using and then utilise the specialist software to put the book together.

People often choose to print and publish a book like this following an event such as a wedding, or as a means of capturing a baby’s first year of life or the special moments from a holiday of a lifetime. One other good example to use is a book which captures a major renovation of a part of your house, such as fitting your dream kitchen. The photos included could include shots of the room before the work starts, the gutted shell when the old kitchen has been ripped out and then the slow, difficult process of putting a new kitchen together. Once you’ve chosen and uploaded the relevant pictures, you could then choose every other feature of the book, such as its’ shape and format, the number of pages and the type and design of the cover- will it be a plain, luxurious leather covered book with ‘Our New Kitchen’ or a full colour shot of the finished artefact? The choice is entirely in the hands of the consumer, as is the matter of whether you need to include any text alongside the images.

Perhaps you want to write something like ‘We had a hard time pulling the old cooker out’ or perhaps you feel that the picture of you sweating, straining and putting your back out tells the story well enough. Photo books can be used to capture and keep any event, from the fairly mundane to the massively life changing, and make both wonderful gifts and precious keepsakes.

Survival of the Fattest

From the time some long-ago human-like ancestor decided it would be cool to walk upright, all the way up to today, the leading cause of death has been starvation. (Horribly, in some parts of the world, it still is.) Wars and pandemics can’t begin to match starvation’s body count. So what’s a Mother Nature to do to protect her children? Easy. Teach them to eat it when they see it, and encourage them to like to eat things that will most efficiently pack on the pounds.

There is a reason we’d rather have a chocolate chip cookie than a carrot stick. We have 20,000 years of evolution behind us, in which people with a taste for high fat, high calorie foods survived the lean and hungry times better than the carrot-stick lovers, and managed to reproduce and bring offspring to maturity, insuring that their genes were passed on. We are hard-wired to eat this way.

As soon as we can get around under our own steam, we start putting things in our mouths, hoping for a good result. And our tastes are evident pretty early. Any mother of a young child will tell you that there were some foods that came back out of the mouth as soon as they were spooned in. For my son, every one was a vegetable (but not all vegetables- high sugar vegetables like sweet potatoes and yes, even that poor carrot were cheerfully accepted). But oh, the day when that first french fry or bite of pizza comes your way. Carrots don’t stand a chance.

Food undeniably impacts our brain chemistry. Take a hard look at most people’s idea of “comfort food” it will be high fat, high carb, or both. Macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy (heck, anything and gravy), bacon sandwiches… okay, I’m making myself hungry now. But we don’t crave these foods just because we remember Mom making them for us, we crave them because our brains tell us that these foods make us happy, no matter how bad our day has been, and no matter the number on that nasty bathroom scale. It’s not a character flaw; it’s Mom Nature trying to put a winter coat on us that will see us through the frost.

Unfortunately, now that most of us in the developed world don’t have to worry about getting through the winter, Mother Nature is out of options. The engine of evolution can’t help us reset our tastes this time. Even though we are starting to see the first declines in life expectancy in recorded history, primarily due to obesity issues, people simply aren’t dying early enough to effect a change in our ways. People who die from obesity-related health issues rarely die before they have had a chance to reproduce and pass on their fat-loving genes to their children.

The good news is, that same 20,000 years of evolution has given us an impressive higher brain function. It drives people to study what high-fat diets do to our long-term health, even if it won’t kill us before we reproduce. Most importantly, it lets us control how much of that yummy almost-irresistible fatty stuff we take in. I said almost. We can resist, we just don’t like to. And we don’t have to, at least not all the time. Chocolate chip cookies aren’t poison. If you have to drown your brussel sprouts in butter or Hollandaise sauce to find them palatable, you might as well have a chocolate chip cookie. Just remember you might want to take that winter coat off come the spring.

Human Growth Hormone Offers Increased Energy Levels

A natural part of the aging process seems to be the decline in our brain activity. As we get older, some tend to lose the love for life that they once had. We seem to forget the small things and our general sense of well-being is not what it used to be. This is due in part to the natural decrease in bodily levels of HGH starting that begins as soon as our early twenties. Our bodies are not getting the natural release of HGH into the bloodstream that was once enjoyed in youth and teenage years. Everyone wants to enjoy a sense of well-being and happiness, higher energy levels, restful sleep, and greater mental clarity and focus. Increasing bodily levels of human growth hormone offers a tremendous and positive impact on these elements of life.

When embarking on a synthetic HGH treatment plan as monitored by a physician, one initial benefit includes a natural boost in energy levels, which is felt oftentimes after only a few days after starting treatment. This offers great benefit to individuals who suffer from chronically low energy. Imagine waking up in the morning with a renewed lust and excitement for life. Oftentimes, people lose their drive for really enjoying life due to diminishing energy and other ailments tied to the natural aging process. This lack of zest for life can commonly create a negative outlook on life in mid-aged as well as older individuals. Engaging in synthetic human growth hormone treatment has also been shown to positively improve the mental clarity and physical aspects of patients, further facilitating a more enjoyable life and sense of purpose.

Human growth hormone treatment is available through a physician in the form of an injection. HGH injection treatments help facilitate greater overall levels of energy by increasing levels of HGH in the patient’s bloodstream, but such injections can be very costly. Many treatment plans can require a monthly investment of upwards of $2,000, which is cost prohibitive for most. The plans also require multiple visits to the doctor and up to 48 injections per month, which can be a very inconvenient, painful, and time-consuming endeavor.

Today, there are certain natural homeopathic formulas on the market that naturally help stimulate and empower the pituitary gland to function at healthier and more youthful levels. The connection could be made that strengthening and empowering the pituitary gland to function at more youthful levels would lead to an increase in bodily production of HGH delivered from the pituitary gland to the bloodstream. This safe, convenient, natural, and cost effective option assists in offering similar benefits naturally to that enjoyed by patients engaging in a synthetic treatment plan.

Tips on How to Rate a Review on Online Writers’ Communities

Online writers’ communities have become commonplace. A community of writers, all aspiring for publication or simply to reach a larger audience than the collection of their friends and loved ones can be a tremendous boost for a writer, because every writer needs an audience-even those who write simply because they ‘can’t not write’. For many aspiring authors, writing communities and critique partners are a great tool for validation of their craft.

Glowing reviews from peers tell you what works, confirm the correctness of the direction you chose and boost your morale as a writer. While praise is an ego booster, a writer always needs to be level-headed in order to remain focused and keep a consistent quality in one’s writing. Reviews that provide technical corrections (i.e. spelling, punctuation, grammar, typos, homophones etc.) can help improve the quality of a writer’s work.

The problem with writing communities is that feedback is given by writers of varying calibre. Some reviewers write suggestions as though they are law. They rate you down for trivial reasons like neglecting to mention that you’re using non-US English, or because they couldn’t pronounce your character’s name.

As a member of one such writers’ community, I’ve received both positive and negative feedback (including a two-star review for using a level of English deemed to be too advanced for a romance novel!).

So how should a writer handle reviews they receive from writers’ communities? Here are my tips:

First thing to remember is that, it’s your story. No one else can write or tell you how you want to write your story. However, make sure to get a handle on the basic technical stuff. There are many grammar books as well as online resources available to writers seeking to improve their craft-which I believe we would all like.

Secondly, don’t take it personally. Without aural backing, a review can sound harsher than intended. When faced with a negative review, take a step back from your ego and consider the content of the review.

Thirdly, you’re not responsible for the reviewer’s level of intelligence. If a reviewer doesn’t know the meaning of a word, let him/her get a dictionary. A writer shouldn’t have to dumb down to make a reviewer feel better. If the reader/reviewer doesn’t realise you’re using non-US grammar, tough. When you get published, there isn’t going to be a note in the book stating what grammar is being used. It’s time for readers to get intelligent. If they are clearly not, that’s not your fault.

Remember it’s only their opinion. You may be lucky enough to get feedback from a seasoned reviewer or editor; either way, all reviews come with some level of subjectivity. Don’t expect a reviewer to set aside personal feelings to really assess your writing style and tone. In fact, it may even be necessary for a reviewer (and ultimately, the reader) to have some emotional connection with your story.

Finally, try to put yourself in the reviewer’s shoes. If possible, check out a reviewer’s other reviews or their writing, if they are writers. Some reviewers simply don’t do ‘nice’, and their reviews are perhaps not meant to be harsh. It’s not fair when you get a bad rating for a reviewer’s unfamiliarity with your genre or your use of strong language etc., but like I said before, it is only their opinion.

Some reviews are bound to be better than others.it’s great to get praise and encouragement; corrections and suggestions will ultimately improve the quality of your work; but every now and then, you’ll receive a harsh review and/or a low rating. Be objective and pick out what might help you from the review, and try not to get offended or disheartened. It’s the writer’s job to learn how to recognise and use the good ones.

Leasing Hip Hop Beats – It’s Just Fine For Some

I’ve heard it said many times and have read it in many articles, that using or leasing hip-hop beats from these so called “royalty-free” websites is a bad idea but I for one must disagree – at least in part. Sure, if you’re on the cusp of “making it” in the music business as a rap artist then yes, I would agree with most of the naysayers (and I really hate to agree) that leasing probably isn’t in your best interest. But what about the uncounted millions in the rap world whom are still babes-in-the-woods when it comes to spittin’ lyrics? Who is going to spring for a professional producer to create a completely unique piece that they can call their own? Probably isn’t going to happen.

I suppose if you are one of the uncounted or underprivileged you can always have one of your homies beat box while you practice your rap the way so many of us did back in the day when rap was still for fun – when it wasn’t so much the rappers who were spitting but rather their beat making buddies. Or worse yet, you could rap along to your illegally downloaded recording of fifty-cent while your girlfriend sits quietly by wishing in her head that she had gone to the mall instead. But why in this modern age of technology should you have to?

My point is, many aspiring rap artists do not have access to the kinds of expensive equipment needed to produce their own beats, and even when they do, not all of them have the ability to use it properly in order to create the kinds of fresh beats that they’re looking for. For a kid from an impoverished neighborhood, companies that lease-out beats for little-to-nothing are like a god-send. Even if they don’t own a computer, they can use one from their local library to download the beats, then take them home and practice with them until they their “flowcabulary” is polished smooth as a river stone.

And so what if they aren’t able to sell whatever they’ve created using the leased beat? The fact is that they have had an equal chance to practice whatever talent they may or may not have while using a professional beat. And if at some point this kid – the one from the impoverished neighborhood – becomes truly good at his or her trade, maybe – just maybe – somebody out there with the means to pay for ownership of a quality beat will take notice of them and then who’s to say where they’ll go, and all because of websites that lease beats.

So the next time you hear someone ripping on the royalty-free websites that so many in the business have come to demonize, just remember that it may not be right for everyone… but it’s just fine for some.

Proper Body Hygiene for Women

Practicing and maintaining good physical hygiene is crucial to avoiding complications in the human body’s private areas. As it is, in the western culture, our armpits, feet, anal, vaginal, and pelvic areas are secluded from open fresh air many hours of any given day. These areas have creases in the skin that traps in moisture hastening the probability of bacteria growth if not thoroughly cleansed with mild soap and warm water daily. For some, several times a day. While it is important for men and women to execute healthy hygiene habits, it is even more so for the woman.

While both male and female typically build up an odor in their feet (especially if they have worn socks and encased shoes all day), armpits, and private areas, the woman has the added probability of obtaining a strong fish like odor in and around her vagina if proper body hygiene is not adhered to daily. Because the vagina is made up soft, moist tissue, it is not uncommon for a woman to periodically experience a light odor by the end of a day. Often times, this may result in a slight vaginal discharge as well.

Those who live in warmer climates, yet forced by society to cover up for fear of arrest for indecent exposure may experience it even more so. Other lifestyles that may cause a smelly vaginal odor and discharge is that of a dancer, gymnast, deep sea diver, etc. These sports require the athlete to wear non-breathable fabric such as nylon ballet tights, spandex leotards, and full bodied rubber suits for hours at a time while executing physical exertion adding even more heat to the already creviced and enclosed areas. Entrapping the vagina and other bodily parts with folds of skin or tissue to trap in the moisture causing bacteria to form and grow. For the woman, this may result in a slight vaginal yeast infection. If left unchecked, it could grow into a health problem.

All the typical problems mentioned above can be avoided by following seven crucial steps:

1) Shower in the morning to start your day off fresh, and at night before going to bed

2) Allow some time in the day for all secluded parts of the body to be free of clothing to receive fresh air

3) Wear cotton or thronged under underwear to allow air flow

4) Wear a cotton bra with no padding to allow fresh air under the creases of the breast

5) Douche with vinegar and water regularly

6) Refrain from being sexual active with multiple partners and get medical information from anyone with whom you are sexually active

7) Visit your OBGYN on regular basis… they will be able to detect if anything out of the norm is causing the odor and offer a diagnosis to cure you

Women are beautiful creatures. In order for the body scent to reflect the inner and outer beauty of the woman, do not just cover up with perfumes. Take good care of the vessel you have been given. Practice good hygiene and enjoy being a woman.

How to Improve Health and Social Care: A Vision for Preventative Service

Restructuring of health and social care is forcing many services to close or become streamlined and managers have had to find new ways to ensure they get financial support to continue services’ delivery. In the current climate of rationing services, preventative care should be re-in fenced to minimise accidents and service users’ health deterioration at home. The measure is intended to save health and social care money in the long run. By contrast, due to drastic cuts across the public sector organisations, unfortunately preventative services are often the first to be axed. This actually tantamount to negligence at core, which later challenges the existence of our prime services – to manage complex situations such as the critical and substantial care needs. Therefore, what is the rationale behind this policy decisions (Ugwumadu 2011).

Nonetheless, it could be argued that such decisions are accredited to the tunnel vision of some senior managers. In hindsight, some of them can only see within the parameters of their corporate responsibilities that is “to save money”. In reality, it is only the older people and the other vulnerable groups in society that would suffer the consequences of such irrational decision-making. Thus, the aims of this article is to illuminate how the managers could make the case for continuing care delivery in a changing economic environment in relation to; demographic change and linear family units in the 21st Century and beyond.

On reflection, best practice would suggest that in a time of economic and budgetary constraints, collaboration with the local primary care trusts, community organisations and the third sector institutions would prevail. This would ensure that the vulnerable service users will be supported adequately to become more independent in their homes. Partnership working between agencies has the propensity for sharing resources such as, staff, information technology, offices, intelligence etc. If we are to emulate the private sector, mutualisation would help in reducing unmet needs and service breakdowns in the community. Sharing responsibilities would also promote health and psychosocial well-being among service users as well as reducing the need for admissions into nursing homes or hospital admissions.

Managing community services require organisational cultures and political change, which would give rise to the sharing of intelligence between the collaborated organisations who are working for the benefits of service users (older people, learning disabilities or mental health). This approach is intended to provide opportunities in reducing services’ duplications, costs and antagonistic relationships between agencies. Whilst capitalising on intelligence sharing, a lot of soft evidences could turn to hard evidences, this coming directly from community health practitioners such as community nurses and social workers. This data would show for example, figures on how many older people or the other vulnerable groups that were admitted to hospital after a fall or care breakdowns and what these cost the NHS and social services in after-care (Cameron 2010).

Looking at the frequency of falls and care breakdowns among the service users in a given period, the estimated figure would provide a relative forecast for the number of incidents that could lead to hospital admissions in future, costs to local primary trust and cost of care packages to social services. These results would be instrumental to future planning for community base services and implementation of strategies appropriate in reducing falls or care breakdowns at home. The projected cost savings could be reinvested to preventative services in line with continuing safe environments, where older people and other service users could be rehabilitated to minimise falls.

In practice, good risk assessments provide the opportunity for service users to be assisted in a safe environments, this could be in their own home or in a residential setting. These should be incorporated into day-to-day operations and will often run alongside equality monitoring of services. This is about getting the balance right between planning, delivery of services and managing information. This approach should be robust and prudent as to ensure cost recovery and quality care management for service users and their informal caregivers. Information gathering and monitoring of services would intensify support for community services while users are able to make choices and control of their support networks.

Another important source of evidence is feedback and “quotes from service users”. This adds to the richness of evidence. Hence, the service users know what they want and the standards they are used to, rather than the professionals prescribing for them. This signals the process for change and how services could be delivered in future. The service users and their families should be part of the new thinking in a modernising health and social care sectors and they have rights like any other citizen of the state to make informed decisions and choices.

For health and social services to remain in the premier league of services delivery within the wider welfare and universal service frameworks, it is imperative that investment in research and development is forthcoming. This provides an apparatus for good evidence based practice, where data could be shared, analysed and put to action as a mechanism in maintaining safety net. In the light of this, there is every indication that unless mutualisation is considered each of the organisations would not be able to meet the increasing needs of the growing service users now and in the future.

Inevitably, advancement in technology is changing our world and the methods of working. Thus, capturing quality practice based evidence from service users and their families could be made simple by developing and implementing scorecard systems so that individuals who come to the service can tell us things. This could be on a scale of one to five for example, telling us how depressed they feel about their care; how they feel about their health; how many falls they had in the last one month and how to improve services further. These questions or survey could be repeated every three to six months in order to compare and contrast findings. The information gathered would help determine investment in human resources and hospital avoidance strategies necessary to support older people and the other vulnerable groups to be cared for in the community for as long as possible.

All things being equal, Data Protection Act (1998) and Freedom of Information Act (2005) could constrain sharing and flow of information between agencies and this would influence services delivery in the community. If that is the case, duplication of services would continue to be present coupled with poor information sharing between agencies. In practice, duplication of services and assessment works against the best interest of the service users, hence this can create anxiety, repetition of information and exacerbation of stress amongst the users. Equally, duplication of services could lead to costs escalations between agencies and these defies the objects for cost effectiveness and strategies for recovery and business turnaround (Ugwumadu 2011).
